This laboratory complements Geology for Engineers (GEOL 4015) through practical activities focused on fundamental geologic concepts relevant to engineering applications. Students will develop skills in identifying and classifying common minerals and rocks and apply basic principles of structural geology and geomorphology to interpret geologic features. The laboratory reinforces concepts presented in lecture and gives students a practical understanding of how geologic materials, structures, and surface processes relate to engineering problems.

This laboratory complements Sedimentary Environments and Lithogenesis (GEOL 4046) through hands-on study of sediments, sedimentary rocks, sedimentary structures, and depositional environments. Students will apply concepts introduced in lecture to the description, classification, and interpretation of sedimentary materials using laboratory observations, petrographic analysis, and field-based activities. Emphasis is placed on understanding the processes of weathering, transport, deposition, and lithification, and on using sedimentary characteristics to interpret the environments and conditions in which sediments and rocks formed.
