English 3286 is a creative writing course designed to practice skills and techniques required for writing fiction. 

Elements of fiction will be explored such as: description, narration, character development, dialogue, point of view, plot, pacing, imagery, symbolism, figurative language, etc. The workshop setting will promote the process of drafting, peer review, and revision.

A special writing and research-intensive course where students study, engage with, and understand oral history as an interdisciplinary research methodology that both draws from and supports research in the disciplines of the humanities and social sciences.

Expansion of critical thinking, reading, writing, and speaking skills through sustained engagement with, interpretation of, and evaluation of genres, such as: the novel, Shakespearean drama, poetry, criticism, and theory; this course focuses on the development of advanced research methods and academic writing.

English 4008 is a creative nonfiction writing course designed to practice the skills and tools required for the writing process. The first rule of writing is: Writers Write. Therefore, a major component of the course will be writing, both in-class spontaneous exercises and pieces that require a more sustained creative writing practice. The primary focus will be on creative nonfiction prose, but other genre will be introduced as creative nonfiction draws on techniques from fiction and poetry.
