Welcome to INGL 3101
Hi!
Welcome to Colegio and to Basic English I! My name is Waleska F. Morciglio and I am your English instructor this semester. This course is divided into units. Each unit has the following sections and in each section you will find information in the form of presentations, videos or pdf documents and exercises.
Readings - the readings will help you practice reading comprehension and skills, as well acquire new vocabulary
Grammar - here you have grammar lessons that include explanations of grammar points, practice exercises and opportunities to use what you learned in your writing assignments
Writing - in each unit we will focus on one academic writing skill. You will see information and examples. Then you will put into practice what you have learned.
Vocabulary - even when you will be learning vocabulary from reading and grammar lessons, in this section we will focus on phrasal verbs and transitional expressions (see links below)
Below you will find links to the syllabus, vocabulary lists for the semester, the reference book for writing and grammar, and a link to video tutorials that can help you with your classes in Moodle. -

This is obviously not a reading, but just an activity you can use along with the reading "Spell It in English." You can have a little fun with it by asking students to repeat after you. You can also use it to have a discussion regarding the difficulties some of them might have in the areas of spelling and pronunciation.

This very brief presentation is information taken from the Phrasal Verbs document.

In this dictionary activity I included phrasal verbs as well as other parts of speech. Identifying parts of speech and using the dictionary are skills our students need in order to continue learning vocabulary and using it correctly.
